Carol Ann Tomlinson
Carol Ann Tomlinson is a personal mentor of mine. I deeply appreciate her approach to teaching and the way in which she presents the tenets of differentiation. Mostly, however, it her compassion and commitment to the students as learners, but most importantly as people.
Carol Ann Tomlinson began to change her way of teaching after an incident that shocked her into realizing that she had no real knowledge of who her students were. She then undertook the task of changing her style of teaching so in order to ensure that she developed those interpersonal relationships with her students. In her quest for bettering herself as a teacher, she realized how vital it was to not only know who is in your classroom, but to apply that knowledge to the way in which students learned and the way that in which they can demonstrate what they know.
